CAUTION
Be careful not to confuse parts, and be sure to install all parts in the correct direction. Please assemble in accordance with the sequence given below.
Assembly should be carried out by at least two persons.
Be sure to use the correct screw size, as indicated above. Use of incorrect screws can cause damage.
Be sure to tighten up all screws upon completing assembly of each unit.
The entire package must be turned over during assembly, so select an area that is large enough for the unpacking and assembly operation.

Have a Phillips-head (plus) screwdriver ready.
Open the carton and remove the parts from the upper level.
The parts shown in the "Assembly Parts" illustration will be used. Follow the assembly instructions and select the parts as needed.

NOTE
A bench may be supplied or optional, depending on the location in which the instrument was purchased.

1 Attach the three legs (A).
Use scissors or a cutter to remove the packing material in which the main unit is wrapped. Then attach the legs to the bottom of the main unit using one 10 x 60mm bolt (1) per leg. The legs (A) are identical so they can be used at any position on the unit however, please pay close attention to the illustration and ensure that the legs are properly fitted to the rectangular pipe's rounded edge.

Make sure that when the legs are attached that the legs are fitted to the rectangular pipe's rounded edge.
When attaching the legs, make sure to tighten each bolt using the supplied wrench until there remains no gap between the washer, spring washer and the bolt. As you tighten the bolt, occasionally shake the leg to remove any looseness between the pipes and the leg.

2 Attach the pedal box (B).
Before attaching the pedal box, remove the vinyl tie holding the pedal cord to the base plate then connect the pedal cord. Pull the pedal plug out from the hole in the base plate and plug it into the PEDAL jack in the bottom of the main unit with the flat side of the plug facing the keyboard side of the main unit (refer to the illustration). If the plug won't go in properly, do not force it ... check the plug orientation and try again.
Making sure that the pedal cord doesn't get caught between the base plate and main unit, carefully lower the pedal box assembly onto the bottom of the main unit and line up the screw holes. Finally, attach the pedal box with four 5 x 20 mm screws (4).

3 Turn over the instrument and packing.
Make sure that the three legs are firmly attached, then using the front legs for support, turn over the instrument and packing so that the carton is on top of the instrument.

4 Remove the carton and packing material.
Lift and remove the carton, then remove the remaining packing material from the main unit.
At this time, make sure the Clavinova makes no rattling noise when you shake it. If it does, go back and retighten all bolts and screws.

5 Voltage Selector
Before connecting the AC power cord, check the setting of the voltage selector which is provided in some areas. To set the selector for 110V, 127V, 220V or 240V main voltages, use a "minus" screwdriver to rotate the selector dial so that the correct voltage for your region appears next to the pointer on the panel. The voltage selector is set at 240V when the unit is initially shipped.

CAUTION
An improper voltage setting can cause serious damage to the Clavinova or result in improper operation.

6 Attach the cord holders and plug in the AC cord.
Remove the protective backing from the adhesive surface of the cord holders, and attach at approximately the locations shown in the illustration. Plug the main-unit end of the AC cord into the corresponding socket on the bottom of the main unit, then secure the cord with the cord holders.
Move the instrument to the location where it will be used and connect the AC power cord to an AC wall outlet. A plug adaptor may be also provided in some areas to match the pin configuration of the AC wall outlets in your area.

7 Set the adjuster.
For stability, an adjuster is provided on the bottom of the pedal box (B). Rotate the adjuster until it comes in firm contact with the floor surface. The adjuster ensures stable pedal operation and facilitates pedal effect control. If the adjuster is not in firm contact with the floor surface, distorted sound may result.

After completing the assembly, please check the following.
Are there any parts left over?
-> Review the assembly procedure and correct any errors.
Is the Clavinova clear of doors and other movable fixtures?
-> Move the Clavinova to an appropriate location.
Does the Clavinova make a rattling noise when you shake it?
-> Tighten all screws.
Does the pedal box rattle or give way when you step on the pedals?
-> Turn the adjuster so that it is set firmly against the floor.
Are the pedal and power cords inserted securely into the sockets?
-> Check the connection.
If the main unit creaks or is otherwise unsteady when you play on the keyboard, refer to the assembly diagrams and retighten all screws.
After assembly is complete, it will be necessary to remove the keyboard string. This procedure is performed once only and the string will never have to be reattached again. For instructions on its removal, refer to the paper titled "REQUEST" that can be found on the keys underneath the key cover (see page 10).

CAUTION
When moving the instrument after assembly, always hold the lower surface of the main unit, NEVER the lid, the top portion or keyboard cover. Improper handling can result in damage to the instrument or personal injury.
